When people talk about the area known as Cabo San Lucas they generally include the city of San Jose del Cabo. These two cities and the 20 miles of coastline between them is known as Los Cabos (the Capes). San Jose is just 25 minutes up the coast from Cabo San Lucas, and can easily be a part of any Cabo San Lucas vacation.
When deciding on a hotel for a Los Cabos getway it is a good idea to be aware of the actual location of the hotel in question. More than a few people have booked hotels in San Jose del Cabo thinking that they were going to be staying in Cabo San Lucas. Not that there is anything wrong with San Jose del Cabo. It's just not Cabo San Lucas.
San Jose del Cabo is a great city with a personality completely separate from Cabo San Lucas. Like Cabo, the main town is a about a half mile inland from the beach. San Jose del Cabo offers quaint shops, restaurants, and even some nightlife. Just not as much as Cabo San Lucas.
In general San Jose del Cabo is a more relaxed town than Cabo San Lucas. Things happen a bit slower here, the pace is more manana. San Jose del Cabo is often the choice for couples and families who want to visit the excitememnt of Cabo San Lucas but don't want to stay in a hotel the midst of it all.
