PEOPLE WHO HATE CABO

Carlos Fiesta has loved Cabo San Lucas since the 1970's, when there were only a few flights into Cabo each week and the airport terminal was a small thatched hut. And although the vast majority of people who visit Cabo today also think it's a great place, there is a small percentage of people who actually dislike Cabo. Who are these people and what is their problem with this little corner of Paradise?

Let's see here...is there really that much to dislike about Cabo? Let's take a look at the particulars...clear and warm desert air, spectacular beaches with crystal clear warm ocean waters, remarkable local geography, friendly people, excellent food, killer nightlife, great fishing, snorkeling and golf....it all sounds pretty good to Carlos.

So who are these people who bad-mouth Cabo? They can generally be categorized under a few different groups. For starters there will always be a certain number of people who just love to complain, no matter how great a place is. These people often just like to hear themselves talk, and they love it even more if they can garner the attention of people who don't know any better. We'll just write these travelers off as people who had bad relationships with their parents when they were growing up (and be thankful that we won't be running into them on our next trip to the Cape).

The next group of people who hate Cabo are those who "remember it when...". Carlos has met more than his share of people over the years (usually old-time fishermen) who complain that Cabo used to be great, but now it's too (crowded/expensive/popular...you fill in the blanks). These people remember the days when you could fly into Cabo in a small plane and land on the old dirt strip behind the Hacienda Hotel (where the Cabo Marina now sits) and grab a room for $25 per night and pay a dollar for a six-pack of Coronas. Well guess what, amigos, Carlos remembers paying $9 to get in a full day of 'E' tickets at Disneyland...but things change.

Another group of people who hate Cabo are people who can't say "no, thank you". If you are going to have a great time in Cabo those are three words that you can't be afraid to say. And the cool thing is that the word 'no' is the same in English as it is in Spanish. So when you are approached by a timeshare salesman while walking the streets, a vendor selling hats on the beach, or a late night hooker who needs one more Juan to make her night...repeat after Carlos..."No, thank you". It's easy and it works.

People who don't like hot weather who go to the Cape in August also hate Cabo. Helllllloooooo????? This is a desert located in the Tropics. For gosh sakes Mrs. Cleaver, it even gets hot in Ohio in August, let alone a desert in Mexico. Well give these people a break...they just forgot to do their homework before heading south of the border. Those who don't like Cabo for a couple of months in summer would probably love the place during the rest of the year.

The bottom line here is attitude. Most people make up their mind that they are going to have a great time in Cabo before they even get on the plane at their home aiprort. They know they are going to have a blast and that thier trip to Cabo is going to be spectacular. Now with an attitude like that you just can't go wrong!

Carlos Fiesta's Hot Tip

Expectations are a huge part of any travel getaway. To make the best of your trip to Cabo San Lucas read as much as you can about the Cape before you head south, and try to talk to people who have been there. It will make your trip that much more enjoyable!
