There are plenty of things to see and do in Cabo San Lucas. But there are a few tried and true "must see" locations in town that seem to be Cabo favorites. Even folks who usually don't like to follow the crowds will see something of interest in these popular tourist spots.
Also known as "The Arch" El Arco is that spectacular granite arch located at Land's End in Cabo. It's much bigger in person than it appears to be from town, and a trip out to El Arco is always a fun adventure.
Probably the best way to see the Arch up close and personal is to take a panga (small boat) from the marina or from El Medano Beach. The cost is minimal and well worth it.
The boat ride out to El Arco is about an hour round trip, and includes cruising past the old Cabo Cannery, along the small beaches heading out to the Arch and finally past beautiful Lover's Beach. Between Lover's Beach and El Arco there is a flat rock where seals like to hang out and watch the tourists. Bring a camera!
Another way to see El Arco is to have a panga drop your off at Lover's Beach, arrange a pick-up time, and then swim or snorkel around the corner to see the Arch from the water's edge. If the waves are small this can be a fun adventure. At extremely low tides you can actually walk under the arch from the back side of Lover's Beach!
Every tourist spot in Mexico has it's main focus. In Cabo San Lucas El Medano Beach is ground zero.
Although the beach runs from the marina entrance and up the coast for over a mile, the main focal point of this great beach runs about a half mile strong from Billigan's Island to Las Cascades Resort.
Along this popular stretch of beach you can find pretty much whatever Cabo San Lucas is famous for. Panga rides to El Arco, parasailing aventures, Wave Runner and kayak rentals, restaurants, cocktails, vendors and more. People watching is one of the most popular things to do on this beach!
There are a few hotels on this beach and they are great places to stay if you want to be within walking distance to all the beach action. Carlos Fiesta's favorite hotel on this beach is the Melia San Lucas, more because of it's swim-up bar than for any other reason. All of the hotels on this beach are excellent and just a short walk to the action!
If you've heard any stories about the wild goings-on in Cabo you have probably heard about the Giggling Marlin. And probably everything you have hear is true. Carlos Fiesta spent a week there one night.
The Giggling Marlin was one of the first bars to open in Cabo and seems to have only gotten better with age. When it first opened it was popular because it was one of the only places in down to get wild and crazy. But now that Cabo has plenty of other places to let loose, the Gigglling Marlin has found new ways to maintain it's stature as a prime place to party.
One of the fun things about the Giggling Marlin today is the floor show. Yes you can still hang upside down in the shackels at the end of the bar and take your picture with the smiling marlin, but the floor show here is the main hot tip.
If the idea of a floor show sound boring to you, think again. In the center of the Giggling Marlin is a stage surrounded by tables and chairs. That stage becomes the focal point for a very entertaining show each evening around 9:00. Talented employees, great music, special lighting, dirty dancing, audience participation and whatever else is on the agenda for the night makes for a great way to start your night of fun in Cabo! After the show the dance floor opens for everyone and the fun continues! Bring bail money.
