Cabo visitors looking for a fun half day getaway up the coast often discover the jewel of the West Cape, Todos Santos. This special Baja town is less than an hour away from Cabo San Lucas but a world apart.
The drive from Cabo San Lucas to Todos Santos along Highway 19 was not always so easy. It was a dirt road up until the 1980's and only the most adventurous travelers made the trip.
The road to Todos Santos today is a well maintained asphault two lane highway that skirts the coast for about 45 miles until it reaches Todos Santos. Various spur roads to the west (dirt) lead to empty beaches and some excellent shell collecting opportunities.
The town of Todos is small enough to be enjoyed on foot. Most people park their cars on the north end of town near the Hotel California and hoof it from there. The town offers relaxing restaurants, several good art galleries, small hotels and a fun book store.
Beach fans and surfers will have to head a bit west of town to find the sand, but the trek is well worth it. Carlos Fiesta's favorite beach in Todos Santos is Playa San Pedrito just south of town.
Todos Santos has been discovered by the Gringos and new homes are popping up on the beaches north and south of town. Although less expensive than Cabo San Lucas, real estate prices are steadily rising.
Cabo visitors with a sense of adventure can choose to take the loop trip home, via Buena Vista and the East Cape. This is probably a two hours return but allows the traveler to check out the historic mining town of EL TRIUNFO and the laid back beach community of BUENA VISTA.
Todos Santos is a great escape for breakfast (if you can get up that early while on vacation!) or a fun lunch destination for those looking for an excuse to get out of the hotel for a few hours!
